Intrigue in the Night Air

This is a painting by HD*.

It was a learning exercise - out of one of those 'Teach Yourself to Paint' books. And, as is the case with these exercises, it doesn't look much like the original. The original was in pastels, and this was done in acrylics. I prefer this version by far (no offence to the original).

In fact, I adore it. (Yes, I realise I may be biased).

But I find this painting incredibly evocative. It instantly transports me to a rainy night in some European city, rainy streets glossy in the street lights, people sheltered within their apartments, and the deep silence broken by the sudden roar of a speeding, unmarked car...

It could be a scene in a Tintin adventure, or from a movie like Ronin. One day, it will feature in my long list of yet-to-be-written stories.

I have appropriated this painting in the past and decorated my work area with it.In the words of one colleague with obviously excellent taste, it is smashing!
