Blaze in Blue V: Them There Hills

You can see the scorched, blackened ground. Where trees would be flush with spring growth, they have now been abruptly calcified - brittle, thin skeletons in the aftermath of the fire line of Friday night.

The sky is smoke-filled. The entirety of Sydney is affected by the smoke from this and other bushfires.

Late this afternoon, these hills which had previously been untouched except for backburning, suddenly had separate columns rising.

As dusk seeps into the world, the telltale orange flickers become more obvious.

The fire lines are quickly countered by the reassuring red and blue flashing lights of the Fireys, but it is unclear at this stage how recalcitrant this fire line will prove to be.

Another lot of hills that we now watch guardedly.
